This 18-Karat gold chiming Pocket watch was presented to Dr. Anson Buck upon his retirement from Trafalgar township council in 1908 as reeve. He sat on council 40 years and missed only one meeting.
Dresses and suits on the right are displayed in the Halton Co. Museum along with the other items shown here.
Clothing display includes a suit worn by Colin H. Campbell and two gowns belonging to his wife Minnie Campbell, daughter of Anson Buck. The one with a diagonal design was worn at the 1911 coronation of George V and the lace gown at the 1901 coronation of Edward VII.
This Buck family has quite a history in Pennsylvania, New York, Fort Erie, and Halton Co., Ontario, Canada. The immigrant was Frederick Buck born abt 1716 in Upper Rhone Valley, Germany, arrived in the 1740s. His son, Philip joined the British Army during the American Revolutionary War, he was a United Empire Loyalist which entitled them to land for their services.
The dress on the left belonged to Mrs. Keturah Adelaide Buck,wife of Dr. Anson Buck. It is all hand stitched. Dated before 1890.
Above: The well worn side saddle used by Margaret Buck, wife of Philip Buck UE. The story of the 5 women and 31 children say they walked, about 1778, to Canada. They were escorted the latter part of the way by the soldiers sent from Fort George, Niagara, Ontario, to help them. The Trek of the 5 women were: Mrs. Buck, Mrs. Nelles, Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Secord, and Mrs. Young.
10 Mar 1832 and died on 26 Apr 1906 in Palermo, Ontario, Canada, at age 74.

"Death of Mrs. (Dr.) Buck.
With the passing away on Thursday morning of Mrs. Buck, wife of Anson Buck, M.D., M.R.C.S. (Eng.) of Palermo, this county has lost one of its oldest native residents. Most of her seventy-four years were lived within three miles of her birthplace. Mrs. Buck, nee Keturah Adelaide Howell, was the second daughter of the late John Triller and Hannah Howell, of U.E. Loyalist stock, one of a family of nine. She is survived by two sisters and one brother - Mrs. James Teeter, of Burlington, Mrs. Clinton P. Lawrence, of Palermo, and Mr. George Howell, of Grimsby. Her family, besides her husband, one of Canada's oldest physicians, having been fifty-three years now in active service, consists of two daughters, Mrs. Colin C. McPhee, of Montreal, and Mrs. Colin H. Campbell, Winnipeg, wife of the Attorney-General of Manitoba, and an adopted daughter, Miss May Mathieson. Mrs. Buck possessed a quiet and retiring disposition, and a strong and cultivated mind. Her passion was to be of service. She was deeply interested in her husband's profession, and in the early days of his practice did much to help him in a practical way. A short illness of two weeks of pleuro-pneumonia proved too much for her feeble frame. While she enjoyed life she said, "I would not live alway." On Saturday she was laid to rest beside her grandfathers and kindred in the old Methodist Churchyard."

Doctor's house. This rambling two-story house on Bronte Road in Palermo traces its roots back to 1825, and for many years was owned by Dr. Anson BUCK, (Grandson of Philip BUCK UE) who having "a fine horse and rig" made house calls to his patients throughout the county. Photographed here in 1951, when still a private residence, the building has been a restaurant for many years, and while numerous exterior changes have been made, it still looks very much like it did back then. The old home is now Anson's Retaurant.

* ! NEW INFORMATION !*
Old info to compare with below
Philip married Margaret (Anne &or Mary) BOWMAN (Surname not proved, stated by another researcher.) in 1765/1767 in Pennsylvania. Margaret was born in 1751 in Germany??, Or Was German?, and died after 1813 Ontario, Canada.
General Notes: Margaret, name used as whom Philip married. Anne was listed at the Christ Church in Philadelphia, PA, when they baptized 2 of the children in Philadelphia, PA. Other researchers used Mary. Mary is a nickname for Margaret. In German transition: A Saints name is given to the child as her first name and is used, usually, in Church records only. Other times the 2nd name is used such as Anne being Margaret's Saint's name and Margaret used in all other records, such as census, deeds, death and will records.
* ! NEW ! *
Since the above was posted, a new clue as to Philip BUCK's wife's name has been found, and proves out as her name being: ANNA MARGUERITE SAULTMAN,
or ANNA MARGARET SAULTMAN (Have found names similar as: SAULTSMAN - SALZMAN - SALTZMAN). The clue being the baptism of her and Philip's son, Phillip BUCK Jr. baptized 6 Oct 1781 and states the names of his father and mother. Located at the Public Archives in Quebec, Canada. More research is being done at this time.

THE UNITED EMPIRE LOYALISTS' ASSOCIATION OF CANADA
Colonel John Butler (Niagara) Branch
SECOND REPORT of the BUREAU OF ARCHIVES for the PROVINCE OF ONTARIO
By Alexander Fraser, Provincial Archivist 1904
The migration of the Loyalists to Canada, which began from New York State, as early as 1774, continued in varying degree till 1789, eight years after the close of the war and six years after the treaty of peace had been signed. By the terms of the treaty it was stipulated that creditors on each side should "meet with no lawful impediment" to recover all good debts in sterling money, and that the Congress of the United States should "earnestly recommend" to the States the restoration of the rights and possessions of "real British subjects," and of Loyalists who had not borne arms. All other Loyalists were to be given twelve months in which to adjust their affairs and recover confiscated property. It was provided also that no future confiscations should be made, that imprisoned Loyalists should be released, and that no further persecutions should be permitted. Congress, accordingly sent recommendations to the States concerned, but without effect. Instead of due restitution, petty annoyance and persecution followed, severe ordinances and statutes were passed against the Loyalists, and an exodus from the country was the only relief left open to them.
The Loyalists resident in New York went to Britain, Nova Scotia, and Upper Canada. It is estimated that 2,000 persons crossed the Atlantic between 1775 and 1785, a number of whom, however, afterwards came to Canada. The Commission opened their investigation in October, under the following classification: -
0. Those who had rendered services to Great Britain.
1. Those who had borne arms against the revolution.
2. Uniform Loyalists.
3. Loyalists resident in Great Britain.
4. Those who took oaths of allegiance to the American States, but afterward joined the British.
5. Those who armed with the Americans and later joined the British army or navy.
Claimants had to state specifically in writing the nature of their losses. Claims were first ordered to be presented by March 25th, 1784, but the time was later extended till 1790. On the first date mentioned, 2,063 claims were presented, representing a loss of about $35,000,000 in real and personal property. $11,770,000 in debts and $443,000 in incomes, making a total of nearly $47,250,000. Compensation was not allowed for estates bought after the war, rents, incomes of offices received during the rebellion, anticipated professional profits, losses in trade, labor, or by the British army, losses through depreciated paper money, captures at sea and debts. By April, 1788, the Commissioners had examined 1,680 claims on which they allowed $9,448,000.

2. Mary BUCK was born 11 Mar 1768 Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. Most researchers have Mary as married to John
Gaspar CLAUS UE, in 1794, but this does not seem to hold true. In the Memorial of 1813, for land to the
heirs, her father said "late daughter Mary" and leaving land to her children. In the book “Butlers Rangers,
1777-1784” by Lt. William SMY under John Claus listing, states: John “Married Mary BUCK (d.1803), who
was born at Forty Fort,PA., in 1759.” These date are way off for a daughter of Philip BUCK but fits in nicely
for his sister. More research is being done to determine the correct Mary Buck.
